We hope to facilitate training, skills development and more that will create long term sustainable trades and facilitate an income and future for individuals and communities. By doing so this will empower local communities to become more relevant in conserving natural resources, protecting our natural heritage with conservation awareness and see South Africa into a bright and prosperous future!

Community Creche
We support a creche in the community lands opposite Ilkley, which hosts around 50 children between the ages of 1 & 5 with materials where possible to upgrade the school, assist with funding when available and help with skills development for both the teachers and children. The creche gets funding of around 335 US Dollars per month, this is meant to keep up the current facility, feed the children once a day, provide learning materials as well as pay the 2 teachers a salary. This certainly does not cover much, and we are actively trying to assist where possible with volunteers helping build vegetable gardens, teach skills and much more! We are in the process of registering a non-profit organisation to hopefully bring in funds for these young children, but this is a long process so we will hopefully have everything in place by March 2010!

Mafunyane Cultural Village
We have had the pleasure of hosting Axon, the founder of the Mafunyane Tribal Village, from 2006. Axon and his team provide an authentic cultural experience utilising a show village he built on the Ilkley Reserve. This village provides an income for Axon, his family and employees that come from the community over the road from Ilkley. 4 years ago, the Mafunyane village faced being closed as the land he was renting was being sold, and he was also struggling to pay rent. Mr. Peter Evertse, the founder of Ilkley, met with Axon and agreed to host his village on the reserve, and have not received a rent to Axons benefit that he has been able to build up his business to the current success it is today, and is now financially viable and provides an income to many individuals.
