VOLUNTEERS - THE KRUGER CHEETAH & WILD DOG PROJECT

This project has been set up in conjuction with conservationists and South Africa's leading cheetah & wild dog specialists to see how we can improve the lives of these two highly endangered species, that cannot be released back into the wild. The aim of the project is to educate young people on the plight of these animals.
VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT
* Duties such as cleaning enclosures in order to prevent contamination of these highly sensitive animals.
* Building onto existing enclosures.
* Re-introduction and tracking data capture when available.
* Regular checks and sanitizing of water supply to cheetah and wild dog to ensure high quality.
* Preparing food and feeding the animals.
* Basic studies and updating records such as determining the animals diet by inspecting the consistency of their stool.
* Area around the enclosures to be monitored for feral activity.
* Live trapping & relocation of rodents around enclosures.
* Fence inspections and repairs with anti-poaching unit.
* Snare sweeps, anti-poaching tracking and training, and bush sleep out.
* Taking educational groups through enclosures.
* Photographing and basic study of vultures on carcasses, including possible tagging project.
* Monitoring animal migration.
* Game counts, bush and grass management, game capture and relocation when available.
* Involvement with local trust adjacent to project, which includes sustainable vegetable garden planting, sustainable industry production and training.
* Assisting with Jessica the hippo on a farm nearby
